About

British Jazz multi-instrumentalist, a player of the alto, baritone and soprano saxophones and flute, and has won two BBC and two Parliamentary Jazz Awards.
Born of Ghanaian parents 10 July 1964 Nottingham, UK. Brother of guitarist/singer Freddie Kofi.
Tony took up alto saxophone at the age of 17 and received a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music (1988). After graduating he moved to London, UK, playing with the Jazz Warriors and later with Gary Crosby's Nu Tropp.
Starting out as part of the legendary Jazz Warriors, saxophonist Tony Kofi went on to work with nearly every important band on the UK scene throughout the 1990s, from Lonnie Smith, Billy Higgins and US3 to the searching bands of Branford Marsalis, Julian Arguelles and David Murray. During the 2000s he worked in Claude Deppa's A.J.E. & Horns Unlimited, with Byron Wallen in Indigo, and with the Grand Union Orchestra. He also lead his own ten-piece Afro Jazz Famly, his own quintet, and own quartet.
