Torres

Torres is the project of singer-songwriter Mackenzie Scott, born in Macon, Georgia in 1991. Working at the intersection of indie rock, art rock, and folk, Scott has built a reputation as one of the most uncompromising and original voices in contemporary American music, her work marked by emotional intensity, literary lyrical ambition, and a production approach that has evolved dramatically across her records. Her self-titled debut (2013) announced a striking and distinctive voice — solo guitar and vocals, emotionally exposed and formally inventive. Sprinter (2015), produced by Rob Ellis and PJ Harvey collaborator John Parrish, was a leap in ambition and reach, a raw, powerful rock record that drew comparisons to PJ Harvey and earned widespread critical acclaim. Three Futures (2017) took a more electronic approach, exploring synthetic textures in place of guitar distortion. Far from Here (2020), produced by Torres and John Congleton, was her most expansive and experimental record, featuring dense production and a willingness to disrupt conventional song structure. Thirstier (2021) brought some of the most accessible songwriting of her career alongside continued formal experimentation. Scott is openly queer and has been candid about the role of identity and relationships in her songwriting. She has been consistently cited as one of the most important voices in contemporary indie rock, her work valued for its refusal to compromise and its emotional depth.
