Uri Katzenstein (1951-2018) was an Israeli multidisciplinary artist who worked in a variety of mediums including sculpture, installation, performance art, video, and drawing. He was born in Kibbutz Maabarot, Israel, and studied at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. Katzenstein's work often explored themes related to identity, history, and politics, and he was known for using found objects and materials in his sculptures and installations. He exhibited extensively in Israel and internationally, including at the Venice Biennale, the Sao Paulo Biennial, and the Documenta exhibition in Kassel, Germany. In addition to his artistic practice, Katzenstein was also a prominent educator, teaching at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Shenkar College of Engineering and Design, and other institutions in Israel. Katzenstein received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the Israel Prize in Art in 2014, one of the highest honors in the country. He passed away in 2018 at the age of 67.
