About

American pianist, songwriter and singer.
Born November 24, 1905 in New York City, New York, USA.
Died May 16, 1992 in New York City, New York, USA.
Collaborated with Roy Turk. After his death, she collaborated with Tot Seymour (Grace Mann), becoming the first successful female songwriting team in the history of popular music publishing.
When the female piano duo of Muriel Pollock and Constance Mering needed a person to fill in when Constance was forced to retire due to consumption, Lawnhurst was up to the task. Muriel asked Lawhurst whether she would step in and take Muriel's place. Circa 1928 Pollock and Lawnhurst became an official duo-piano team, calling themselves "The Ladybugs". Pollock would play mostly rhythm and Lawnhurst would play more of the flashy piano work. They appeared regularly on the radio, and in 1934 left for posterity a number of phonograph recordings on the newly-formed Decca label. Popular Melodies, Inc. sold a six course suite by Lawnhurst and Pollock entitled "Table d'Hote", which included 30 pages of printed duet music. The Ladybugs never performed publicly, but did make some personal appearances for meetings with their sponsors, Wildroot Hair Tonic.
