About

British bassoonist, conductor and composer. Born on 27 July 1912 in Croydon, England. Died on 12 October 1996 in Woodbridge, Suffolk, England. From the 1960s he became more widely known as the composer of music for short animated television films for children, including the Ivor The Engine series. He composed the music to the Smallfilms productions of Clangers, Noggin The Nog, Pingwings, Pogles' Wood and The Seal Of Neptune. Elliott won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music, London, but never graduated, leaving early to become principal bassoonist with the rising Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra in 1937. He was a founder member of the Philharmonia Orchestra, a member of Benjamin Britten's English Opera Group orchestra, and conductor of The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and became a professor at the Trinity College Of Music, London.
