About

Wipers was a recording project helmed by Greg Sage, starting in late 1978 in Portland, OR. First conceived as a studio project, they originally planned to release fifteen LPs over ten years and completely avoid doing tours or interviews.

After releasing 3 classic records, Sage had to disband the group, as their last label went bankrupt putting him in great debt. After managing to put out his solo album "Straight Ahead" in 1985, he re-started the Wipers. The band released 3 more albums, and in 1989 Sage decided to break the band up once more, and move to Phoenix, Arizona.

Sage built a recording studio in Arizona, which led to him releasing his second solo album "Sacrifice (For Love)" in 1991, and reforming the Wipers. Kurt Cobain had cited the band, and especially the debut album, as major influences, and invited them to open for Nirvana for the entirety of the Neverming tour. He declined but did open for one show of them.

After releasing 3 more albums, the Wipers disbanded for good in 1999.
