About

Yeah Yeah Yeahs are a Rock band formed in New York City in 2000, comprising vocalist Karen O, guitarist Nick Zinner, and drummer Brian Chase. Emerging from the same Lower East Side scene that spawned The Strokes and Interpol, they became one of the most electrifying live acts of the post-punk revival, distinguished by Karen O's ferocious stage presence and an approach to guitar rock that absorbed art-punk, glam, and noise into something entirely their own. Their debut EP (2001) and the singles 'Bang' and 'Art Star' built an immediate reputation. Full-length debut *Fever To Tell* (2003) arrived like a lightning bolt — eight songs of serrated, caffeinated post-punk powered by Zinner's spidery guitar and Karen O's howling, croon-to-scream vocals. The ballad 'Maps' showed a tenderness beneath the abrasion and became one of the decade's most beloved indie songs, while 'Y Control' and 'Date with the Night' showcased the band at maximum intensity. *Show Your Bones* (2006) refined the sound and *Is Is* (2007) pushed into more experimental territory. The major pivot came with *It's Blitz!* (2009), a synth-pop record that largely set aside the guitars in favor of driving dance-rock production, yielding 'Zero' and 'Heads Will Roll,' the latter becoming a dancefloor and film-soundtrack staple that expanded their audience dramatically. *Mosquito* (2013) returned to a more eclectic, electric approach before a decade-long gap. *Cool It Down* (2022) marked a triumphant return with a more measured, emotionally richer collection that demonstrated the band's continued relevance and artistic growth. Karen O's visual and performative creativity — masks, bodysuits, homemade costumes, microphone-eating — made Yeah Yeah Yeahs as much an art project as a band. Their influence on indie rock and art-punk of the 2000s and beyond has been profound and enduring.
