    Swedish actor, film director, theatre director, lyricist, screenwriter, poet, songwriter, author and children's book narrator, born on August 25, 1924 in Rödön, Rödön (1863-1973)/Krokom (from 1974), Jämtland and died on February 7, 1997 in Hedvig Eleonora, Stockholm, Uppland.


    'Allan Edvall' grew up in Hissmofors in Jämtland. In 1949, he was accepted at 'undefineds elevskola', also known as undefineds elevskola' before 1964, (the Royal Dramatic Training Academy). His interest in the theatre had been founded much earlier by listening to the radio theatre when he still lived at home in Jämtland. After graduating in 1952, 'Edvall' came to work on many stages. undefined (the Royal Dramatic Theatre) on several occasions in 1952-1955, 1958-1962 and 1963-1971. In between, and later, he worked mainly as a freelancer.

    From 1960 to 1962 he worked as a teacher of stage performance at 'undefineds elevskola' (the Royal Dramatic Training Academy).

    Allan Edwall is best-known for the small roles he played in some of Ingmar Bergman's films such as in Fanny and Alexander and his role as Anton in Olle Hellbom's Emil of Lönneberga.

    Edwall was awarded the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet's Thalia Prize in 1960, 'Teaterförbundets' (The Swedish Union for Performing Arts and Film)'s Anders De Wahl Scholarship in 1962, 'Teaterförbundets' (The Swedish Union for Performing Arts and Film)'s Gösta Ekman Sr. Scholarship in 1970, 'Guldbaggen' (the Guldbagge Awards) in 1974 for 'Emil och griseknoen' (Emil and the Piglet), 'Teaterförbundets' (The Swedish Union for Performing Arts and Film)'s Gold Medal in 1975, 'undefineds' (the Royal Dramatic Theatre)'s Eugene O'Neill Scholarship in 1980, 'den kungliga medaljen Litteris et artibus' (the Royal Medal Litteris et Artibus) in 1981, 'Svenska Akademiens' (the Swedish Academy)'s Theatre Prize in 1983 and the Fritiof Nilsson Piraten Prize in 1996.

    Allan Edwall, as Johan Allan Edwall, died at Karolinska University Hospital in Solna on February 7, 1997. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

    Allan Edwall, as 'Johan Allan Edvall', was the father of Mattias Edwall, Måns Edwall and Malin Edwall with his wife Britt Edwall. The spouses divorced in 1965. Between 1947 and 1952, he was married, as 'Allan Edvall', to Berit Linnéa Edvall (née Larsson). They had one son, Jan Mikael Edwall (Born as Edvall), born in 1948 and deceased in 2016.
