Avril Lavigne

Avril Lavigne is a singer-songwriter and guitarist born in 1984 in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. One of the most commercially successful pop-punk and pop-rock artists of the early 2000s, she helped define a generation's idea of teenage alienation and alternative identity through a sound that paired punk-inflected guitar with polished pop production and an attitude that was simultaneously rebellious and radio-friendly. Discovered singing country music at a county fair in Ontario as a teenager, she was signed to Arista Records and relocated to New York to record her debut. *Let Go* (2002) was a phenomenon: the album sold over 25 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling debut albums of the decade, and produced the anthemic 'Complicated,' 'Sk8er Boi,' and 'I'm with You.'
