In 1972, a big band was formed at the then Department of Entertainment Music in Katowice (Poland), founded and led by Andrzej Zubek, who managed the band until 1976. In the years 1976-1981 the team was taken over by prof. Zbigniew Kalemba, and from 1982 to 2012 prof Andrzej Zubek again. Currently, the leader of the big band is adt. dr. Grzegorz Nagórski. Big-Band is a showcase of the Jazz Institute - and the entire University, it is also an excellent workshop for future soloists, orchestral musicians and arrangers. The band's high qualities are confirmed by invitations to numerous foreign concerts, including to Germany, France, the United States and former Czechoslovakia.
