    Jazz bassist/composer/arranger, born 13 March 1914 in New York City, USA, died 2 December 1998 in Venice, Florida, USA. He was a founding member of the Bob Crosby Band (1935), arranging and part-composing several of the band's big successes, including "What's New?", "South Rampart Street Parade", "My Inspiration", and "Big Noise from Winnetka". He was also an accomplished painter, whose art was featured on covers of several of his recordings.
