Bombay Bicycle Club

About

Bombay Bicycle Club are a British Indie Rock band formed in London in 2005 while its members were still at school, led by vocalist and guitarist Jack Steadman. Their trajectory from teenage guitar band to expansive, electronics-influenced pop group is one of the more striking reinventions in British indie music of the 2000s and 2010s.

I Had the Blues But I Shook Them Loose (2009) was an energetic debut of guitar pop with folk undertones, followed by Flaws (2010), an all-acoustic record recorded quickly and on a budget that showcased Steadman's songwriting without embellishment. A Different Kind of Fix (2011) was their commercial and critical peak — tighter, more rhythmically sophisticated, and revealing a band beginning to look beyond guitar music.

So Long, See You Tomorrow (2014) was a significant departure, incorporating electronic production, samples, and a more global palette of influences. The record debuted at number one in the UK and demonstrated a willingness to risk their existing audience to grow as artists. After a hiatus, they returned with Everything Else Has Gone Wrong (2020) and My Big Day (2023), both received warmly by a loyal fanbase.

Alongside The Maccabees and Foals, Bombay Bicycle Club were part of a generation of British guitar bands who arrived in indie rock's late-2000s era and used the decade to find a more individual voice.
