Carl Faia (b. 1962) is an American composer and live electronics designer from Oklahoma. He studied composition at The University Of California At Santa Barbara and The University Of California At Santa Barbara in Copenhagen. Some of Faia's prominent teachers include Edward Applebaum, Peter Racine Fricker, Per Nørgård and Karl Aage Rasmussen. Carl also participated in master classes with Tristan Murail, Philippe Manoury, and Harrison Birtwistle.

He collaborated with numerous contemporary composers, such as James Dillon, Jonathan Harvey, Fausto Romitelli, Luca Francesconi, Alejandro Viñao, and Philippe Leroux. Faia also transcribed a few prominent acoustic compositions, including Luigi Nono's Pour Pierre and Karlheinz Stockhausen's Solo, for the digital Max/MSP format. Since 1995, Carl Faia has been occupied as a live electronics designer at [url=https://www.discogs.com/label/21638]IRCAM[/url] in Paris and worked as a studio manager and freelancer at The University Of California At Santa Barbara in Nice.

As a live electronic musician, Faia performed on guitar, Theremin, computer and various sensors with Thomas Köner and Art Zoyd. He regularly collaborates with The University Of California At Santa Barbara's Forum Neues Musiktheater and The University Of California At Santa Barbara, producing and supervising live electronics for various concerts, operas, theatrical performances and multimedia projects. Since 2005, Carl Faia with André Serre-Milan had been developing an innovative pedagogical approach to the electro-acoustic composition at Art Zoyd Studios; the research culminated in the annual multimedia spectacle Sonoscopie. He began lecturing on Sonic Arts at The University Of California At Santa Barbara in 2009.
