Dave (or David) Matthews (* 04 March 1942 in Sonora, Kentucky) is an American Funk, Soul, Jazz and Pop artist.
Pianist, producer, arranger, conductor and bandleader, David Matthews is well known for having been arranger for James Brown in the beginning of the 70s and later has been closely associated with Creed Taylor's CTI Records.
He has also composed for television and commercial advertisement, but is also leader of both the Manhattan Jazz Orchestra and the Manhattan Jazz Quintet, two acts very popular in Japan.
He has also worked with Paul Simon, Buddy Rich, Mark Murphy, Yana Purim, Morgana King, Esther Phillips and George Benson, to name a few.
One of his main hits as a composer is Could Heaven Ever Be Like This, which he composed, arranged and produced for Idris Muhammad. He now lives in Japan.
