Eldritch Anisette

Eldritch Anisette was an emo band from Newark, Delaware, existing between 1996-1997. Courtney (vocalist) and Tim (drummer) previously played together in the band [a5764822], which made a singular demo tape in 1995 before disbanding, while Marc (bassist) and Tim played in the band [a4054457], which released a demo tape in 1995 and an lp on Planaria Recordings in 1996. Their only release was a self-titled 7", recorded during winter of 96/97. Beforehand, they also made a 6-track demo tape, 3 songs off of which ended up on the 7". Shortly after the release of the 7" the band disbanded. In January 2024, Numero Group picked them up, and rereleased all of their material. They did at least a dozen shows in their lifetime. According to Courtney, at their peak, they were doing one show a week. Their earliest dated show is at "Girls Inc." on the 27th April, 1996. Other dated shows are: 18.5.96. (Girls Inc., "across from pep boys"), and 1.6.96. (Girls. Inc.). These 3 shows were all at 7 PM, and included other bands, such as [a4054457], where Marc (bassist) and Tim also played. Most of the band's concerts were organized by the Enoch Collective (a group that included members of local bands organizing local shows). The name of the band comes from Courtney, and Allen (guitarist). Courtney at the time was heavily interested in the French language, and liked the word anisette (type of liquor). Allen afterwards suggested eldritch, which Courtney in an [url=https://discohijack.blogspot.com/2011/05/eldritch-anisette.html]interview[/url] said "creates a kind of mystery, and means 'strange, unearthly'".
