Four Tet

Four Tet is the primary recording alias of British musician, producer, and DJ Kieran Hebden, born September 2, 1977 in Putney, London. One of electronic music's most consistently inventive figures, he has spent Three decades exploring the overlap between folktronica, ambient, club music, and experimental pop — moving between them with an ease that makes categorisation feel beside the point.

Hebden began his career as a member of the post-rock band Fridge before releasing his debut solo album as Four Tet, Dialogue, in 1999. Rounds (2003) was his breakthrough — a record of warm, intricate textures combining acoustic instruments with digital production that defined the early folktronica movement and influenced a generation of producers. Everything Ecstatic (2005) pushed his sound into more frenetic, cut-up territory.

Ringers (2005) and There Is Love In You (2010) demonstrated his versatility, the latter incorporating elements of house and club music that would become increasingly central to his live DJ work. Beautiful Rewind (2013) and Morning/Evening (2015) refined his approach, while his late-2010s and early-2020s output — including collaborations with Burial and a series of anonymous releases — demonstrated an artist who never settles.

As a DJ, Four Tet built a devoted global following through marathon live sets and residencies. Alongside Floating Points and Jon Hopkins, he represents the most intellectually rigorous strand of UK electronic music — always rooted in dance but never reducible to it.
