About

British music hall singer/entertainer & recording artist who used many pseudonyms.
Born 1887 in Paddington, West London, England. Died 1953 in Blackpool, England.
Charman began in the music halls at the age of 14 and was recording at the age of 15 on Edison phonograph cylinders. He covered all kinds of popular tunes though he was best known for ragtime tunes and music hall numbers. He is most often viewed today as a "cover" artist who recorded other people's songs and not as a singer who generated hits.
