He is the son of German-American music publisher and long-time vaudeville talent agent and song-plugger Ben Edwards. He is the brother of singer Joan Edwards and nephew of songwriters Gus Edwards and Leo Edwards.
His songs have been recorded by artists including his sister, Steve Lawrence, Carmen McRae, Kate Smith, Al Martino, Neil Hefti, Merv Griffin, Vaughn Monroe, Frankie Vallli (then named Frankie Valley), and the Delta Rhythm Boys. He also worked with legendary stride style pianist Willie "The Lion" Smith. They wrote numerous songs together, including "The Zig Zag" and "Here Comes The Band" a.k.a. "Bring on the Band".
Vaughn Monroe recorded a song written by siblings Jack and Joan called "And So It Ended".
