Jeanette Washington

About

American Vocalist, Songwriter

R&B, P-Funk

Born in Cleveland, OH, Jeanette first appeared as a background singer on recordings by James Brown in 1975. That year she joined Parliament with Debbie Wright, becoming the first female members of the group. Recorded with Parliament (1975–1980) and Funkadelic (1978–1980), both featuring George Clinton, and with the Sweat Band featuring Bootsy Collins and Maceo Parker (1980). In 1978 George Clinton formed what he considered to be the female version of Parliament, Parlet, with Jeanette, Debbie Wright and Mallia Franklin.

Because of a few personnel changes in the group, (Shirley Hayden and Mallia replaced Debbie, Janice Evans replaced Mallia) Jeannette was the only original member to record all three of the group's albums: [m19681], [m19688] and [m19694] for Casablanca before leaving in 1980. In 2000, she appeared on Dawn Silva's solo release, [m19760].
