    Swedish organist, professor of organ and organ interpretation, born September 4, 1960 in Boviken north of Skellefteå. She studied piano for the organist Bengt-Arne Harlin in Skellefteå country church and then became a music teacher and church musician at the music colleges in Piteå and Gothenburg, as well as completed diploma training in Gothenburg and studies in organ and harpsichord playing at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. She has been an organist in Hagakyrkan, a teacher at the church musician's training in Gothenburg and a professor of organ and organ improvisation at the College of Stage and Music at the University of Gothenburg. Since 2013, she has been a professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. She completed her dissertation in 2010 with the thesis Improvisation and Pedagogy through Heinrich Scheidemann's Magnificat Settings, which deals with the reason for notation in northern Germany during the 17th century when organists were otherwise mainly known for their ability to improvise. In addition to concert activities in Sweden and abroad, she has made numerous radio and CD recordings. Karin Nelson is married to organ builder Karl Nelson.
