About

Danish folk group formed 1971 in Roskilde by the members of Han, Hun Og Ham. The name "Lirum Larum" was taken from the traditional folk song Karen fra dansen which they learned from Ingeborg Munch. The Lirum Larum folk group disbanded in 1977/78.

In addition to an extensive concert activity especially in Denmark, but also in Norway, Sweden, Ireland and England, and participation in TV programs, the Lirum Larum folk group was initiators of activities in Roskilde, which during the 1970s led to a large Lirum Larum folk music community that still exists: In January 1972 the Lirum Larum folk group formed the concert association Lirum Larum Folkemusikklub (later named "folk roskilde Lirum Larum"), and gradually the activities were expanded with Roskilde Folkedanserlaug (1973), Roskilde Spillemandsstævne (1976), Roskilde Spillemandslaug (1976 ) etc. From being a 7-piece folk group, Lirum Larum gradually became a collective term for several associations and activities in Roskilde, with a common interest in folk music and folk dance.

The Lirum Larum folk group performed for the first time on October 28, 1971 at the support party "Free Angela Davis" at Roskilde Spillemandsstævne. The group only released one LP Lirum Larum in 1973. Most of the group's members were heavily involved in building the so-called "factory" as chairmen, evening school leaders, teachers and concert organizers. In late 1977, the original Lirum Larum group began to fall apart, both musically and socially, i.a. because the members developed different musical and (cultural) political interests. The last concert was at Roskilde Spillemandsstævne on Fanø, and one of the last joint projects was the publication of a book with accompanying music on reel-to-reel tape, "12 Folkedanse med musik til undervisningsbrug", published by Amtscentralen in Roskilde in 1977, and with Nina Frederiksen listed as the author of the book. The members subsequently continued in bands such as Nabolaget and Rejseorkesteret.

Note: In 2000, the members of Rejseorkesteret released a "Demo CD 2000", an attempt to sell the band to an international market, where they profiled themselves as "Lirum Larum", a continuation of the original Lirum Larum folk group, see [r32132112]. More recently, the Lirum Larum folk group met again in 2009 and were reunited for a concert in Roskilde in 2022.
