American band leader and businessman.
Born 10 January 1893, Washington, DC, USA.
Died 5 April 1976, New York City, New York, USA (age of 83).
Married to composer/pianist Hilda Emery Davis & father of soprano vocalist Ginia Davis. Brother-in-law of conductor Pierre Monteux.
Along with Lester Lanin, Meyer Davis invented the concept of the dance band contractor and controlled a healthy share of the music market for East Coast society functions for over 30 years. As a businessman, he had near 100 orchestras around the country under his name.
Meyer began taking violin lessons, and later, when he was in high school, he led a five member band.
