Nicolas Jaar

Nicolás Jaar (b. 10 January 1990) is an American experimental electronic musician, record producer, composer, DJ, and mixing engineer based in New York. His father is an architect [a=Alfredo Jaar]. He co-founded [url=https://discogs.com/artist/2522005]DARKSIDE[/url] band in 2011 and has been releasing music under various aliases, most notably [url=https://discogs.com/artist/3754267]Against All Logic[/url]. Jaar established two record labels, [url=https://discogs.com/label/245486]Clown & Sunset[/url] (2009–2013) and Other People (since 2013).

In 2008, the same year he enrolled into Other People, Jaar presented his 12" debut, Yiddishe Mambo / Moscovitz Ramble (Muskrat Ramble), on the Brooklyn-based label Other People. (Nicolas graduated in 2012 with a degree in comparative literature.) Nico Jaar remained active on the NYC underground dance scene, producing multiple "disco edits" and "reworks" during the nu-disco resurgence in the early 2010s, with some tracks included on [r=2989464] 12" and [r=2943126] digital compilation. The aspiring artist came to prominence and widespread critical acclaim after his debut full-length album, Space Is Only Noise CD/LP, came out on Other People in 2011. Nicolás Jaar appeared on Other People’s iconic weekly show Other People in May 2012, and [url=https://discogs.com/release/14754170]his selection[/url] was voted "Mix of the Year."

Besides producing several studio albums and numerous EPs, Nicolás Jaar composed a few film soundtracks: [r=15114168] (2015) crime drama directed by [a=Jacques Audiard], which won Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, [url=https://discogs.com/release/19894675]Ema[/url] (2019), for which Jaar earned the "Best Score" award at Miami International Film Festival, and Georgian-French drama "Beginning" (2019) by Déa Kulumbegashvili. Jaar commissioned remixes for various prominent artists, such as Brian Eno, Grizzly Bear, Ellen Allien, Matthew Dear, Architecture In Helsinki, Cat Power, Chet Faker, Shlohmo, Florence And The Machine, and Lydia Lunch.
