October Faction

About

A supergroup of sorts, October Faction was SST Records all-star jam band, consisting of Chuck Dukowski (SWA, ex-Black Flag), Greg Ginn (Black Flag and SST head honcho), Joe Baiza (Saccharine Trust), Greg Cameron (SWA) and Tom Troccoli (Tom Troccoli's Dog and Black Flag merchandising guy). October Faction didn't have any pre-written songs; they just got on stage and jammed for a half hour or so before the headliners played. One of these jams was recorded and released as the group's first LP (with Bill Stevenson filling in for a sick Greg Cameron).

In 1986, the group entered the studio to record their 2nd LP, but according to Tom Troccoli, the members simply recorded their parts on their own, one after another, trying to improvise their playing to the tracks that had already been laid down by the previous member. Neither album was well received and the band was put to rest after the second release.
