    Pete "El Conde" Rodriguez was born 31 January 1933 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He started his career as percussionist and later became singer and band leader known as El Conde (The Count). In the 1963 released his first album but his success came with his recordings on Fania Records, especially in the early 1970's after leaving Fania All Stars. He passed away of a heart failure 1 December 2000 in New York. Father of Pete Rodriguez, Jr..
