    Seely

Seely were an indie-rock band from Atlanta GA, consisting of Steven Satterfield (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Lori Scacco (guitar, keyboards), Eric Taylor (drums), and Joy Waters (vocals, bass guitar). Satterfield and Scacco first met while pursuing architecture degrees, and began playing and writing songs together in 1992, eventually bringing in Taylor and Waters. Their debut album, Parentha See, was released in early 1996 by Atlanta label Third Eye Records (2). A copy made its way to the offices of British indie label Too Pure, which led to Seely becoming the first American band signed by the label. Too Pure initially wanted to reissue the album, but were unable to reach an agreement with the owner of Third Eye, so they opted to have the band re-record the album, this time with John McEntire (Tortoise, The Sea And Cake) as co-producer. The resulting album, Julie Only, was released later in 1996, and contained all twelve tracks from the debut, plus two newer tracks ("Bitsa Jane", "Exploring the Planets"); "Meteor Shower" was released as a single. Their second record for Too Pure, Seconds, was released the next year, along with the single for "Soft City", all of which was co-produced by friend and fellow Atlantan Scott Herren, who would go on to record as Prefuse 73 (and other aliases). Herren also co-produced their fourth and final album, 2000's Winter Birds. Waters had already quit the band by the time of the album's release, but their breakup wasn't announced until later in 2000. The remaining three members initially continued working together towards a new project until Scacco decided to relocate to her hometown of New York City. Satterfield and Taylor contiued to work together in a new band called Silver Lakes, which put out a self-released album in 2006. Scacco has released two solo albums of instrumental works, and also records as half of the duo Storms.
