About

Travis Scott is the stage name of Jacques Bermon Webster II, a rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer born in 1991 in Houston, Texas. One of the most influential figures in contemporary hip-hop and trap Music, he has built a career on immersive, psychedelic production, atmospheric mixtapes and albums, and some of the most spectacular live productions in modern music, cementing himself as one of his generation's defining artists. Having moved to Los Angeles to pursue music, he signed to T.I.'s Grand Hustle and Epic Records and released mixtapes *Owl Pharaoh* (2013) and *Days Before Rodeo* (2014) that established his aesthetic: swirling, pitch-shifted vocal samples, cavernous 808 bass, layered synth textures, and a dreamlike, disorienting atmosphere drawing on Houston's screwed-and-chopped tradition. *Rodeo* (2015) was his major-label debut and contained 'Antidote,' his breakthrough single, establishing his commercial viability. *Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight* (2016) debuted at number one, and *Astroworld* (2018) — named after the demolished Houston amusement park of his childhood — was his masterwork: an elaborately constructed psychedelic trap concept album that produced 'SICKO MODE' (with Drake), one of the decade's defining rap songs, and created a rich sonic world of childhood nostalgia, Houston mythology, and contemporary excess. It debuted at number one and won the Grammy for Best Rap Album. *Utopia* (2023), long anticipated, was another expansive, genre-blurring collection that demonstrated his continued evolution. His Cactus Jack label has launched several significant careers, and his collaborations with Nike, McDonald's, and other brands have made him one of hip-hop's most commercially powerful figures. The Astroworld Festival tragedy in 2021, in which ten people died in a crowd crush, cast a long shadow over his career and legacy.
