Uwe Nolte

Uwe Nolte is a German musician, poet, graphic artist and publisher.

His music groups Barditus, Rückgrat, Sonnentau and most of all Orplid have received international attention. He has incorporated a number of styles into his work, ranging from Black Metal and Industrial to nature-inspired folk music.

His works of German poetry have been widely circulated and reviewed. The same goes for his visual art, which has been used as cover art by other musicians as well (including [a= Fire + Ice] and Leger Des Heils).

He was born on May 11th 1969 in Merseburg in southern Saxony-Anhalt, which at that time, was part of the socialist German Democratic Republic (East Germany). Nolte served as a soldier at the German-German border and was punished for refusing to shoot Germans trying to escape the socialist dictatorship.

Despite his disillusionment with the Soviet system, Uwe Nolte retained a fascination with Russian culture and, after marrying a fellow artist of Russian-German ancestry, relocated to Russia for some time.
